New York, August 18, 2026 (LANA) – The French representative to the UN Security Council affirmed his country's support for the efforts of the UN envoy to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, calling on all Libyan actors to seize the opportunity and engage in the political process, enabling the Libyan people to live in a stable, sovereign, and unified country.

In his address to the Security Council session on the situation in Libya on Tuesday, he stated that Libyan unity is a prerequisite for achieving stability and addressing security threats. He noted that the security situation remains fragile, as evidenced by the drone attacks on fuel depots in Zawiya and the assassination of the head of military intelligence, Fawzi al-Mansouri, in Benghazi.

The French representative stressed that unifying the security forces and the army is a priority, requiring the formation of a unified government across the country to guarantee stability and security. He also called for the withdrawal of foreign fighters and mercenaries to enable Libya to regain its full sovereignty.

He pointed out that any absence of political unity would exacerbate economic and social hardships for the Libyan people, calling for greater transparency in the budget and a fairer distribution of national wealth. He also expressed his country's support for any initiative toward economic unification, the implementation of the unified development agreement, and the efforts of the Central Bank.
