The National Oil Corporation is discussing the city gas project and its delivery to all Libyan cities.

Tripoli, August 18, 2026 (LANA) – During the first technical and financial meeting with the General Company for Gas Transmission and Distribution, the Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Masoud Suleiman, emphasized the vital role the company plays as one of the NOC's technical arms. He highlighted its crucial role in implementing gas transmission and distribution projects and developing related infrastructure.

Suleiman urged the company to expand its operations to encompass various Libyan cities and regions, leveraging its expertise and capabilities in executing strategic projects, particularly those related to delivering gas to cities and regions. This expansion, he noted, would contribute to supporting development, improving services, and reducing project implementation costs.

According to the NOC's media office, Suleiman also stressed the importance of strengthening integration between the NOC, the company, and other relevant entities and departments. He emphasized the need for clearly defined roles and responsibilities to ensure coordinated efforts, enhanced performance efficiency, and optimal utilization of available resources and capabilities.

He further emphasized that safety must remain a top priority in all company operations, underscoring the necessity of conducting comprehensive risk assessments before project implementation to safeguard personnel, assets, and facilities. For his part, the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the company explained that despite the circumstances the country has faced, the company has continued to perform its operational role and maintain the continuous flow of gas in accordance with efficiency and safety standards. He emphasized the company's commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities in gas transmission and distribution, implementing infrastructure projects, and delivering gas to cities and residential areas.

During the meeting, the company presented reports on the activities of its occupational health and safety, operations, planning and projects, commercial affairs, customer accounts, human resources, and financial affairs departments, in addition to reviewing the most significant challenges facing operations.

The meeting also discussed the problems and difficulties hindering the launch and implementation of city gas projects in Tripoli and Benghazi, as well as a number of infrastructure projects, including the gas pipeline project from the Al-Faragh field to the Sarir gas power plant, and ways to support these projects and address the obstacles to their implementation.

The meeting emphasized the importance of improving the company's performance and strengthening its role in implementing gas projects, in line with the National Oil Corporation's plans, and contributing to infrastructure development and enhancing the efficiency of gas transmission and distribution in various regions.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman and members of the Board of Directors of the Corporation, department heads and specialists, and the Chairman and members of the Steering Committee and department heads of the General Company for Gas Transmission and Distribution.
