Massad Boulos: Unifying institutions is a Libyan matter, and the United States supports efforts to achieve it.

Tripoli, August 16, 2026 (LANA) – US Presidential Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, affirmed the United States' support for Libyan efforts aimed at unifying economic, security, and political institutions, thereby contributing to stability and creating the necessary conditions for progress in the political process.

In an interview with the US-based Alhurra TV channel on Saturday, Paulus explained that Washington has a specific goal: to support Libyans in their efforts to unify the economy, security, and political institutions. He noted that the United States seeks to enhance security in Libya, enabling it to be a true partner of the US.

He stated that the details of agreements related to institutional unification "are up to the Libyans themselves," emphasizing that Washington continues its contacts with key Libyan stakeholders to facilitate and encourage efforts to unify these institutions.

He added that the United States is committed to engaging with all Libyans in support of the path toward achieving lasting peace in the country. He pointed out that Washington is working closely with the UN envoy to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, and international partners to build upon the progress already made.

Paulus indicated that US efforts have yielded tangible results, including the adoption of Libya's first unified national budget in over 13 years, as well as the participation of Libyan forces from both the east and west of the country in military exercises overseen by the US Africa Command (AFRICOM).

The US presidential advisor affirmed the United States' continued support for efforts aimed at Unifying Libyan institutions will contribute to strengthening stability and creating the necessary conditions for progress in the political process.
