Ministry of Defense: The attack on oil and vital installations in Zawiya is a direct attack on the security of the nation and the interests of the Libyan people.

Tripoli, August 12, 2026 (LANA) – The Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Unity affirmed that it will not tolerate the attacks and criminal acts targeting oil and vital installations and the assets of the Libyan state in the city of Zawiya. The Ministry considers these acts a direct assault on the security of the nation and the interests of the Libyan people, and a serious threat to stability and social peace.

In a statement published today, Wednesday, on its official page, the Ministry stressed that targeting oil and vital installations and state assets constitutes a systematic act of aggression perpetrated by parties driven by support and incitement from external entities. The aim of these actions is to destabilize the country's security and stability, oppress Libyan citizens, harm the national economy, and drag the country into chaos, violence, and conflict.

The Ministry of Defense held fully responsible all those proven to be involved in these acts, whether through execution, planning, financing, incitement, or providing protection and facilitation. It emphasized that no social or tribal cover will provide immunity for criminals or allow them to escape accountability and punishment.

The Ministry called upon all tribes and social groups in Zawiya and throughout Libya to withdraw their social and tribal support from anyone proven to be involved in these crimes, to disavow their actions, and to refrain from providing them with protection or refuge. The Ministry emphasized that targeting the resources of the Libyan people does not represent a single tribe, city, or group, but rather constitutes an attack on all of Libya.

The Ministry of Defense affirmed that the security of the country, its resources, and its vital projects are a red line, and that it will not allow the Libyan people's assets to be used as tools for blackmail, chaos, or the implementation of foreign agendas.

The Ministry explained that it has exercised the utmost restraint, but stressed that its patience is wearing thin. It emphasized that the period of warnings and admonitions will not continue in the face of repeated attacks, and that it will take, in coordination with the relevant authorities, the deterrent and decisive measures guaranteed by law against anyone proven to be involved in these acts.

In closing, the Ministry issued a clear and unequivocal warning to anyone contemplating harming Libya's security or targeting its facilities and resources. It called upon the people of Zawiya and all Libyans to stand united against these criminal acts, reject attempts to drag the country into chaos and violence, and prioritize the national interest.
