Washington, August 12, 2026 (LANA) – The United States expressed its concern over the recent violence in the cities of Zawiya and Benghazi, condemning the attacks targeting the Zawiya refinery and the assassination of the Libyan Army's Military Intelligence Director, Fawzi al-Mansouri, in Benghazi. The US called for thorough investigations and accountability for those responsible.
The US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, tweeted on Wednesday that these attacks underscore the need for unified and professional military and security institutions capable of providing security for the Libyan people.
Boulos urged all Libyan parties to redouble their efforts to overcome divisions and strengthen the unification of Libya's military, economic, and political institutions.
