Dbeibah: Targeting Oil and Industrial Facilities with Drones Is a Serious Crime and an Escalation That Will Not Go Without a Response

Tripoli, August 11, 2026 (LANA) — Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity Abdulhamid Dbeibah affirmed that targeting oil and industrial facilities with drones is a serious crime and an escalation that will not go without a response. He described it as a direct threat to the lives of citizens and workers, as well as to vital facilities that constitute part of the country’s security, economy, and the resources of its people.

In a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Dbeibah said: “We clearly affirm that whoever targeted the resources of Libyans has crossed a line that cannot be allowed to be crossed,” noting that the use of drones to strike vital facilities is not an isolated incident, but rather an organized and dangerous act requiring a firm response that protects the state and its institutions and prevents its recurrence.

Dbeibah indicated that the competent authorities have begun investigations to determine the source of the drones used in the attack and to identify everyone who planned, ordered, carried out, or participated in it.

The Prime Minister continued: “We say clearly: We will reach those responsible for this attack, and accountability will be firm. No one’s status, position, or influence will protect them, and we will not allow any party to believe that targeting vital facilities can take place without consequences.”

He added that since the fire broke out yesterday at tank T402 in the Zawiya industrial area, he had been following developments closely and had directed the relevant authorities to raise the level of response and deal with the fire and its consequences, while giving priority to protecting lives and preventing the fire from spreading to other facilities.

Dbeibah reassured the residents of Zawiya that the fire had been completely extinguished, while specialized teams continue cooling, securing, and technical monitoring operations to ensure the stability and safety of the site.

The Prime Minister noted that, in parallel, operational activities at the Zawiya oil depot had resumed, ensuring the continued supply of fuel to distribution companies, the regular supply of gasoline to fuel stations, and the continued provision of the power station’s operational requirements, in order to maintain stable supplies and prevent citizens from bearing the consequences of the attack.

Dbeibah praised the firefighting and safety teams, as well as the engineers, technicians, and workers who responded from the earliest moments and worked under difficult and dangerous conditions to control the fire, prevent its spread, and protect lives and facilities.

The Prime Minister stressed that protecting the lives and resources of Libyans is not subject to negotiation, and that anyone who attacks them will face a state that knows its responsibilities, possesses the necessary means, and will not hesitate to use them.
