The unity government's foreign ministry rejects Colombia's decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

Tripoli, August 11, 2026 (LANA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity expressed its strong condemnation and categorical rejection of Colombia's decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, considering this decision a violation of international law.

In a statement issued today, Tuesday, the Ministry said that Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981 affirmed the invalidity of Israel's imposition of its laws and jurisdiction over the occupied Syrian Golan and demanded that it rescind its measures aimed at changing the legal and demographic status of the area.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that such decisions and positions will only exacerbate the situation, increase tensions in the region, and undermine peace.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reiterated its firm position of support for the Syrian Arab Republic in preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at changing the legal status of the occupied Syrian Golan.
