Ankara, August 11, 2026 (LANA) – The Turkish news agency Anadolu reported that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met today, Tuesday, with the head of the Government of National Accord, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, as part of a two-day visit to Libya that includes the capital, Tripoli, and the city of Benghazi.

The agency quoted sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry as saying that Fidan will hold talks in Tripoli and Benghazi during his visit, focusing on ways to strengthen Turkish-Libyan relations based on historical ties of brotherhood, and to achieve mutual benefit in various fields, primarily political, commercial, military, defense, and energy.

The sources explained that Fidan will exchange views on current developments in the Libyan political process and will emphasize the importance of stability in Libya, as well as Türkiye's close monitoring of the American initiatives and the UN political process.

The agency indicated that, within the framework of Turkey's "One Libya" policy, Fidan will emphasize Ankara's desire to strengthen dialogue with Libyan officials, without discrimination between the west, east, and south of the country, as well as the importance of protecting the two countries' shared rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean based on a "win-win" principle.

According to sources, Fidan will also express Turkey's desire to develop its existing energy cooperation with Libya on the basis of mutual benefit, implement new projects, and ensure the continued, secure, and sustainable activities of Turkish companies, which have a significant presence in Libya, particularly in the construction sector. This, he believes, will contribute to enhancing and deepening economic and trade cooperation.
