Tripoli, August 11, 2026 (LANA) – Presidential Council member Musa Al-Koni called on Governor of the Central Bank of Libya Naji Issa to reconsider and withdraw his resignation and continue carrying out his duties in a manner that ensures the continuity of the bank’s operations and preserves its independence, unity, and professionalism, until this sensitive phase is overcome and the institutional conditions necessary to ensure a stable and orderly transition, when appropriate, are firmly established.
In a letter addressed to the Central Bank governor, a copy of which was received by LANA, Al-Koni said that the country is going through a delicate period that requires preserving the stability of its sovereign institutions. He stressed that continuity in the leadership of the Central Bank of Libya and the regularity of its operations are a national necessity to safeguard the stability of the financial and monetary system, maintain confidence in the banking institution, and avoid any institutional vacuum that could have broad economic and social repercussions.
He added that, in the interest of protecting the bank from entering another phase of political contention or uncertainty, “we hope that you will reconsider your resignation and withdraw it.”
