Ministry of Oil and Gas Condemns Attack on Zawiya Oil Complex.

Tripoli, 11 August 2026 (Lana) The GNU Ministry of Oil and Gas strongly condemned a series of attacks targeting vital facilities in Zawiya, most recently drone strikes on the oil complex, Zawiya Refinery, and the water desalination plant, in addition to an incident that resulted in the ignition and collapse of Tank No. (402-T), belonging to the Brega Petroleum Marketing Company, which contained approximately 4.5 million liters of gasoline.

In a statement published on its official page, the Ministry said that these attacks constitute a direct threat to the country's national and economic security and to the safety of citizens, stressing its full support for the National Oil Corporation and its Board of Directors' decision to declare a state of maximum emergency in the area, as well as to deploy its resources in support of firefighting and safety teams' efforts to contain the crisis and limit the damage.

The Ministry called on the competent security and judicial authorities to launch an urgent and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the drone attacks, identify those responsible and the parties supporting them, and pursue them legally and impose deterrent penalties.

It stressed that oil facilities are the property of all Libyan people and their primary source of livelihood, and that targeting them or turning them into objectives in conflicts is a red line, and it called for enhanced security and military protection around oil complexes and facilities to prevent such violations from recurring.

The Ministry explained that, in coordination with the NOC and the Brega Company, it is monitoring the overall supply stocks, reassuring citizens that the situation is being closely followed.

The Ministry also commended the efforts of firefighters, safety personnel, and volunteers in the field, who are bravely confronting the flames to protect the nation's resources.
