The Public Prosecutor's Office decides to detain a foreigner and prosecute an employee of the Tripoli Civil Registry for forging nine national identification numbers.

Tripoli, August 9, 2026 (LANA) – The Public Prosecutor's Office ordered the detention of a foreign national and issued an arrest warrant for an employee at the Tripoli Civil Registry Office for forging a family registration document that enabled nine people to obtain national identification numbers.

The Public Prosecutor's Office stated that a foreign national conspired with a public employee at the Tripoli Civil Registry Office to use a family registration number belonging to a family whose lineage had died out.

The statement added that the foreign national received the family registration document in exchange for 10,000 dinars for the person who facilitated the forgery, and 20,000 dinars for the widow of the family registration holder, who is also a foreign national, after she left for her home country. The statement further indicated that the foreign national met with nine of his cousins ​​to have the data of two of them listed as the father and mother, and the data of the other seven listed as the children.

The statement clarified that all nine individuals obtained national identification numbers, granting them full citizenship rights, and that this enabled one of them to escape a life sentence imposed on him in his home country.

The Public Prosecutor's Office, within the jurisdiction of the Tobruk Court of Appeal, ordered the pretrial detention of the arrested foreigner and directed the arrest of the public official and those who benefited from the forgery, the suspension of all documents based on it, and the tracing of any profits obtained from it.
