Benghazi, August 6, 2026 (LANA) – The Chairman of the House of Representatives' Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee, Youssef Al-Aqouri, met yesterday, Wednesday, in Benghazi, with an official delegation from the Republic of South Sudan to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the religious, cultural, and educational fields. They also discussed supporting coordination between official institutions and developing relations to serve mutual interests.

This came during Al-Aqouri's reception of a delegation headed by the Secretary-General of the Islamic Council and representative of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs of the Republic of South Sudan, Abdullah Burj Rawal.

During the meeting, Al-Aqouri emphasized the deep fraternal relations between Libya and the Republic of South Sudan, stressing the importance of expanding areas of bilateral cooperation to contribute to supporting security, stability, and development in the African continent, and to strengthen the common interests of both countries.

According to a press statement by the spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Abdullah Blihaq, the meeting addressed prospects for developing cooperation between the two sides and enhancing coordination and consultation on issues of common interest, reflecting the two countries' keenness to elevate bilateral relations to broader levels.

For his part, the head of the delegation, Abdullah Burj Rawal, expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome, emphasizing the Republic of South Sudan's desire to strengthen cooperation with Libya and benefit from Libyan expertise in various fields, serving the interests of both brotherly nations.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on the importance of continued communication and the exchange of official visits, contributing to the consolidation of bilateral relations, the enhancement of joint cooperation, and the support of stability and development in both countries. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the government appointed by the House of Representatives, while the delegation included a number of officials from the Republic of South Sudan.
