Libya and China are exploring expanding their partnership in developing the health sector and medical training.

Tripoli, August 5, 2026 (LANA) – The Minister of Health of the Government of National Unity, Dr. Mohamed Al-Ghouj, met in Tripoli on Wednesday with the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Libya to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the areas of digital transformation, health governance, and medical training. This cooperation aims to support efforts to develop the health sector, improve the quality of health services, and modernize the health system in accordance with the latest global technologies.

The meeting addressed prospects for cooperation in health governance, digital transformation, developing telemedicine systems, and utilizing modern technologies, including surgical robots. It also covered supporting training programs and building the capacities of medical and technical personnel, as well as transferring Chinese expertise and experience to Libya.

Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding the partnership between the two countries to bolster the Ministry of Health's plans to modernize the health sector, improve the efficiency of health services, and expand the use of modern technologies to keep pace with global developments in the medical field.

For his part, the Chinese Ambassador praised the level of organization and development he witnessed during his recent visit to Al-Khadra General Hospital. He affirmed his country's readiness to support cooperation with Libyan health institutions, contributing to the development of health services and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
