The High Council of State decides to form a technical committee to diagnose the electricity crisis.

Tripoli, August 3, 2026 (LANA) – The High Council of State decided to form a technical committee comprised of specialists to prepare an objective and accurate diagnosis of the electricity crisis and submit a report containing recommendations and proposals to address its causes and enhance the sector's efficiency.

This decision was made during a meeting held by the Council in the capital, Tripoli, on Monday, chaired by Council President Mohamed Takala, and attended by First Vice President Naji Mukhtar, Second Vice President Omar Boushah, and Rapporteur Belkacem Dabrez.

The session was dedicated to discussing the latest developments in the electricity crisis and identifying the most significant challenges facing the General Electricity Company, as part of the Council's oversight of public policies and essential services related to citizens' lives, according to the Council's media office.

The Council President opened the session with a briefing addressing the developments in the electricity crisis and the main obstacles hindering the sector's performance improvement. He emphasized the importance of adopting sustainable solutions that contribute to increasing production capacity and enhancing the stability of the public grid, thereby ensuring improved service levels.

For his part, the First Deputy Speaker emphasized the crucial role of oversight bodies and the Attorney General's Office in monitoring the performance of the General Electricity Company. He proposed contacting the relevant authorities to request a comprehensive report on the state of the electricity sector, thereby supporting the Council's efforts in exercising its oversight and advisory functions.

The Council also decided that the committee tasked with monitoring the National Oil Corporation would continue its work related to the oil and gas sectors, and would submit a detailed report to the Council on its findings and recommendations.
