Meteorological Center denies reports of sudden floods hitting northern Libya

Pulbished on:

Tripoli, July 30, 2026 (LANA) – The National Center of Meteorology has denied the accuracy of reports circulating on some social media pages regarding sudden floods expected to impact areas in northern Libya, confirming that these claims are entirely untrue.

The Center stated that the expected weather conditions indicate high humidity levels alongside a relative drop in temperatures across northern regions. This is due to the country being affected by a surface high-pressure ridge accompanied by a cold air mass in the upper atmosphere, which will cause thunderclouds to build up over Bani Walid and parts of the Western Mountain range. Tomorrow, these conditions will extend to cover some areas of the northwestern region, potentially bringing light to moderate rainfall—a weather pattern that does not warrant concern or exaggeration.

The Center emphasized that it monitors weather developments around the clock, and any updates requiring advisories or warnings will be officially announced through the National Center of Meteorology's official channels.

The Center urged everyone not to follow unverified information and to rely strictly on bulletins and alerts issued by the Center, as it is the official and competent authority for meteorology in Libya.
