Stephanie Khoury meets Advisor Bushnaf

Benghazi, July 25, 2026 (LANA) – The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ms. Stephanie Khoury, met, Thursday, in Benghazi with the Head of the National Committee for Monitoring the Conditions of Prisons and Detainees, Advisor Ibrahim Bushnaf. They discussed the Committee's ongoing efforts to improve detention conditions and enhance the protection of detainees' rights.

According to a statement published by the UN mission on its website, the two sides discussed the International Conference on Justice and Reform, scheduled to be held next week in Benghazi, and its importance in promoting awareness and dialogue on justice and the rule of law, as well as practical reforms aimed at improving detention conditions and strengthening detention practices that comply with Libya's human rights obligations.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) commended the ongoing efforts of the National Committee to ensure respect for human rights concerning detainees and detention facilities.

The Mission stressed that protecting the dignity and rights of all detainees is essential for building public trust and respect for the rule of law and state institutions.
