National Safety calls on citizens to adhere to electrical safety guidelines during the heat wave

Tripoli, July 23, 2026 (LANA) – The National Safety Department in Tripoli warned citizens of the dangers of increased electrical loads during the heatwave, emphasizing that repeated power outages and restorations, coinciding with the operation of a large number of electrical appliances, can lead to voltage drops. This increases the likelihood of electricity meters burning out, household appliances being damaged, and fires breaking out.

The department explained that operating a large number of electrical appliances simultaneously increases the current drawn and depletes the power supply, causing a drop in voltage. It noted that this drop forces some appliances to draw higher current (amperes) to compensate for the voltage deficiency, leading to overheating of electrical wires, damage to appliances, and potentially fires.

The department added that electrical power is directly related to voltage and current, and that voltage fluctuations directly affect the efficiency of appliances and the safety of electrical wiring, especially during peak hours and periods of high temperatures.

The Tripoli National Safety Department called on citizens to adhere to electrical safety guidelines, avoid operating a large number of electrical appliances simultaneously, and take necessary precautions until the heatwave ends, in order to protect lives and property.
