Egypt and the European Union Discuss Developments in Libya

Manila, July 23, 2026 (LANA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty met today, Thursday, with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Callas, to discuss developments in Libya. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Manila, Philippines.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of supporting efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in Libya, preserving its unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. They also discussed a number of regional issues of common interest, most notably the developments in Sudan and Syria.

The meeting comes within the framework of regular consultations between Egypt and the European Union on regional developments, in light of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides and their commitment to coordinating positions on issues affecting the security and stability of the region.

The European official praised Egypt’s role in supporting regional de-escalation efforts, stressing her desire to continue coordination and consultation with Cairo in the coming period to enhance cooperation within the framework of the existing partnership between the European Union and Egypt.
