Tripoli 22 July 2026 (Lana) UN Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Stephanie Koury, reaffirmed United Nations Support Mission in Libya's commitment to broad-based consultations in support of a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political solution, highlighting Fezzan’s unique history, geography, and experiences.

This came during Koury’s meeting with representatives of the Fezzan National Political Gathering, including dignitaries and political figures from across the Fezzan region, as part of an ongoing series of UNSMIL’s engagements with diverse Libyan constituencies.

According to the mission's official page yesterday, discussions focused on the political process, including the Structured Dialogue recommendations, the importance of meaningful participation from all regions, and priorities for Fezzan in future governance, development, and stabilization efforts.

Participants stressed the importance of the Fezzan in building a Libyan state and its institutions, emphasizing the need to ensure Fezzan's active role in shaping Libya's future and expressing their support for dialogue and UN-facilitated efforts to advance a peaceful resolution of the political crisis.
