Electricity Company: Urgent maintenance and strategic projects to enhance the stability of the electrical grid

Tripoli, July 21, 2026 (LANA) – The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) continues to carry out emergency maintenance work to repair faults and restore power to several areas, while simultaneously completing strategic projects in the fields of power transmission and generation. This is part of its efforts to enhance the stability of the electricity grid and improve the efficiency of the country's power system.

In a post on its official page today, Tuesday, the company stated that operational tests and trials are ongoing at the Gulf Gas Receiving and Metering Station. These tests are a prelude to operating the Gulf Steam Power Plant in Sirte using natural gas instead of diesel fuel. This will contribute to increased production efficiency, reduced operating costs, and improved environmental performance, in coordination with the National Oil Corporation.

In the field of power transmission, technical teams are continuing to complete the installation of towers for the 400 kV West Tripoli-Al-Tibah power transmission line project. This will enhance the transmission capacity to the national grid and meet the increasing demand for electricity.

As part of ongoing maintenance work, rapid response teams from the Ain Zara Distribution Department are continuing to repair faults on the Producers line, fed from the 220 Diplomatic substation, with the aim of restoring power to affected areas. Meanwhile, teams from the Tajoura Industrial Zone Distribution Department are carrying out emergency repairs on a damaged cable that caused a power outage in parts of the Four Streets Electricity and Al-Nuzha areas towards Al-Naam.

Maintenance teams also carried out urgent work to restore power to several residences in the Al-Baaish and Abisa Street areas, in conjunction with maintenance work on the Al-Hamidiya line, fed from the 30 Al-Kasih substation. This work included replacing insulators damaged by a fire.

The General Electricity Company confirmed that its technical teams are continuing to carry out maintenance work and address emergency faults to ensure the stability of the electrical grid and the continuity of power supply to all areas.
