Egyptian-American talks emphasize the importance of holding elections and preserving Libya's unity

Cairo, July 19, 2026 (LANA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty met on Sunday with the US President's Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, to discuss developments in Libya. They emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to support the political process and enhance security and stability, while stressing the need to preserve the unity of the Libyan state and its national institutions.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry's official page stated that during the meeting, Abdel-Aty reiterated his country's firm support for Libya's unity and stability, the necessity of preserving the unity of its national institutions, and reaching a comprehensive political settlement through a Libyan-led process that leads to simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.

The ministry added that the two sides exchanged views on international efforts to advance the political process in Libya. Abdel-Aty affirmed Egypt's support for all UN, regional, and international efforts, including US efforts, aimed at achieving a sustainable political settlement that preserves the unity of the Libyan state and fulfills the aspirations of the Libyan people.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry explained that the meeting came within the framework of ongoing consultations and coordination between the two sides regarding a number of regional issues of common interest, most notably the developments in Libya.

For his part, Mosaad Boulos emphasized the importance of continuing coordination and consultation with Egypt on various regional issues, in a way that serves common interests and contributes to strengthening security and stability in the region.
