Al-Wahat Municipal Guard Branch Conducts Extensive Inspection Campaign Targeting Restaurants and Food Establishments

Benghazi, July 18, 2026 (LANA) – Patrols of the Al-Wahat Branch of the Municipal Guard carried out an extensive inspection campaign targeting a number of restaurants and food establishments within the branch's jurisdiction to monitor compliance with approved health and environmental standards.

The Municipal Guard said on its official Facebook page that the campaign included inspecting the conditions of the targeted restaurants and establishments, verifying the safety of food products on display, reviewing food storage and preparation methods, and monitoring general hygiene standards in kitchens and food preparation and serving areas.

According to the agency, the campaign uncovered several violations, most notably poor hygiene standards at a number of establishments, the seizure of expired food products unfit for human consumption, improper storage and preservation of food products and frozen goods, and the failure of some workers to obtain the required health certificates and comply with the applicable legal procedures.

The agency confirmed that the necessary legal measures have been taken against all violators, with the non-compliant products seized and the violations referred in accordance with the applicable Libyan laws and regulations. It added that inspection campaigns will continue without interruption and that the Municipal Guard will not tolerate any violation that jeopardizes public health or food safety, stressing that the law will be applied to all without exception until all commercial establishments comply with the approved health and legal standards.
