Benghazi University Participates in International Symposium on the Education of Persons with Disabilities in Crises

Benghazi, July 19, 2026 (LANA) – Benghazi University, represented by its Social Service Office, participated in an international scientific symposium organized by the University of Gaza via videoconference. The symposium, titled “Persons with Disabilities in Gaza Under the Weight of War: Education Between Resilience, Mental Health, Digital Transformation, and the Responsibility of the International Community,” included the participation of academics, researchers, and specialists from Arab universities.

Zainab Mahmoud Adhyab, Director of the Social Service Office at the Registrar's Office and Coordinator for Persons with Disabilities at Benghazi University, affirmed that the university's participation stems from its academic and social responsibility towards the issues of persons with disabilities and its support for scientific efforts aimed at promoting their right to education, especially in light of crises and conflicts. During her presentation, Dr. Adhyab emphasized the importance of providing social and psychological support to people with disabilities and creating inclusive and safe learning environments that ensure the continuity of the educational process. She highlighted the pivotal role of academic institutions in establishing the principles of inclusive and equitable education.

She also addressed the importance of digital transformation as an effective tool for ensuring the continuity of education and overcoming the challenges faced by this group. She called for enhanced cooperation between universities and research institutions to exchange expertise and develop innovative solutions that serve people with disabilities and support their social integration.

The symposium discussed the challenges faced by people with disabilities in conflict zones, ways to strengthen the psychological and social care provided to them, the role of digital technologies in supporting education, and the responsibility of the international community to protect their rights in accordance with international conventions and agreements.

The University of Benghazi affirmed that its participation in these international scientific events reflects its commitment to strengthening its academic presence and expanding cooperation with Arab and international universities, thereby contributing to the development of services provided to people with disabilities and supporting the path of inclusive education.
