The Arab Conference of Heads of Security Media Agencies concluded in Tunisia, under the chairmanship of the Interior Ministry of the Government of National Unity.

Tunis, July 16, 2026 (LANA) – The 17th Arab Conference of Heads of Security Media Agencies concluded its work in the Tunisian capital, Tunis, under the chairmanship of Brigadier General Dr. Mohamed Abu Abdullah, representative of the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity, and with the participation of heads and officials of security media agencies from the Ministries of Interior of Arab countries.

The conference issued a number of important recommendations aimed at strengthening Arab cooperation and developing the security media system in Arab countries.

The conference discussed the issue of communicating with new generations through digital platforms, calling on Arab security media agencies to work on engaging with these generations digitally through short videos containing attractive visual content, particularly in the areas of raising awareness about the dangers of cybercrime, extremism, terrorism, and addiction.

The conference also called on member states to strengthen the role of educational and media institutions in developing digital literacy among children and youth and enhancing their ability to use the internet safely.

Regarding the use of artificial intelligence in security media, the conference called on Arab security media outlets to expand their security media production using AI applications, particularly in news and security awareness, due to their high quality and appeal, as well as the time, effort, and financial resources they save.

It also urged member states to pay attention to the role of AI in monitoring and analyzing online media discourse and to utilize this role in detecting extremist, violent, and hateful rhetoric, as well as the promotion of various criminal practices.

The conference reviewed the experiences of several Arab countries in using security media to combat terrorism and called on member states to give due attention to developing legislative frameworks related to media coverage of terrorism issues. This aims to achieve the desired balance between preventing the exploitation of media to spread terrorism and guaranteeing freedom of opinion and expression and the right to access information. The conference also called for the preparation of joint media campaigns at the Arab level on relevant occasions, especially the Arab Week for Awareness of the Dangers of Extremism and Terrorism and the Arab Day for Awareness of the Suffering and Tragedies of Victims of Terrorism, with the goal of raising awareness of the dangers of terrorism and promoting a culture of prevention.

In the area of ​​using media for security awareness and crime prevention, the conference emphasized the importance of media outlets in member states planning effectively to utilize all media, especially digital platforms, for security awareness and crime prevention, particularly cybercrime. This includes diversifying the production of engaging and impactful media content that influences the knowledge and attitudes of the Arab public. The conference also called for expanding digital media production focused on security awareness and the prevention of emerging crimes, targeting specific audience segments, especially youth.

Furthermore, the conference urged the use of official police websites and pages for marketing and engaging with the public on security issues. It requested the General Secretariat to coordinate with relevant media sectors and bodies within the League of Arab States to unify and activate efforts in the field of security awareness and the prevention of all forms of crime, especially emerging ones.

The conference stressed the importance of coordination among member states to enhance the exchange of experiences, expertise, and visits among Arab security media outlets. It also encouraged these outlets to celebrate Arab Police Day and use this occasion to intensify security awareness and crime prevention programs.
