Tripoli, July 16, 2026 (LANA) – Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah directed the newly appointed Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohamed Sidi Ibrahim, who assumed his duties today, Thursday, to prepare a comprehensive plan to improve the ministry's performance. This plan should focus on enhancing institutional efficiency, strengthening environmental oversight, improving waste management, and protecting the coastline, thereby contributing to raising the level of environmental services and preserving natural resources.
This directive came during the first meeting held with the new minister following his appointment, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Cabinet Office, Adel Dhuwair. According to the Prime Minister's Media Office, this meeting was part of the government's efforts to strengthen environmental management, protect natural resources, and support sustainable development initiatives.
Dbeibah emphasized the need for stricter controls on the distribution and use of agricultural pesticides to ensure the protection of public health and the environment. He also stressed the importance of developing a work plan that includes clear priorities, implementation programs with specific timelines, and monitoring mechanisms to guarantee rapid implementation and the achievement of targeted results. According to the media office, the new minister's appointment is based on a distinguished academic and professional career spanning more than three decades. He holds a master's degree in petroleum engineering from the United Kingdom and a bachelor's degree in earth sciences. He has held several leadership and advisory positions in the oil and gas sector, in addition to his expertise in institutional planning and project evaluation. He has also contributed to the preparation of technical studies related to natural resources and sustainable development in the southern regions.
