Tripoli, July 15, 2026 (LANA) – The Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army and Deputy Head of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, held a meeting today, Wednesday, at the Presidential Council headquarters with the Acting Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Salah Al-Din Al-Namroush, in the presence of several members of the Joint Military Commission (5+5) who participated in the military meeting hosted by the city of Sirte.

Al-Lafi listened to a military and technical briefing presented by the Chief of the General Staff, which addressed the outcomes of the meetings held in Sirte and the resulting understandings and executive measures aimed at strengthening the process of unifying the military institution. The briefing also reviewed the most prominent challenges still facing this process and the proposed mechanisms for addressing them in the coming phase.

The meeting discussed the practical steps taken during the past period and the programs planned for implementation in the next phase. These programs aim to ensure the transition from the stage of dialogue and consensus to the stage of implementing measures that will rebuild the military institution on national and professional foundations, free from division, and within the framework of a purely Libyan vision and complete national ownership of this process. This will strengthen the independence of national decision-making and the role of the regular military institutions.

Al-Lafi emphasized that unifying the military institution is one of the most important national and sovereign priorities, as it is a fundamental pillar for consolidating security and stability, protecting the country's unity and sovereignty, and building a professional and unified military institution capable of fulfilling its duties in defending the homeland and securing its borders, far removed from political rivalries, and in line with the aspirations of Libyans for a stable state with unified institutions.

The Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army stressed the importance of maintaining the momentum achieved in the military track, continuing coordination between the various military leaderships and the Joint Military Committee (5+5), and building upon the understandings reached, leading to concrete executive steps that strengthen the unity of the military institution, as it is a key entry point for consolidating stability and supporting state institutions.
