The Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army meets with Field Marshal (Khaled Haftar) in the city of Sirte

Sirte, July 12, 2026 (LANA) – The Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General Dr. Salah al-Din al-Namroush, met today with Field Marshal Khaled Haftar in Sirte, in the presence of the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stephanie Khoury, members of the Joint Military Commission (5+5), the Joint Military Commission (3+3), the Chiefs of Staff of the various branches of the armed forces, and the Secretary-General of the General Staff.
According to a statement published by the General Staff of the Libyan Army on its official page, the meeting addressed a number of priority issues. Emphasis was placed on the unity of the military institution as the only option for protecting the homeland, safeguarding its borders, and strengthening its stability.
An agreement was also reached to organize a unified mobilization exercise with the participation of Libyan Army personnel in one of the southern regions, which will enhance readiness and solidify cooperation between the various units.
The meeting also discussed mechanisms for supporting members of the military institution, improving their capabilities, monitoring their administrative and financial rights, and addressing any problems that may hinder their performance. Additionally, the Chiefs of Staff of the various branches were authorized to hold monthly meetings with their respective departments. This contributes to developing institutional performance and enhancing coordination and joint action.
This meeting comes within the framework of efforts aimed at strengthening the unity of the military institution and consolidating joint action among members of the Libyan army.
