Tripoli, 12 July 2026 (Lana) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed his country's steadfast support for Libya’s unity and stability, stressing the importance of preserving the country's territorial integrity, unifying its national institutions, and reaching a comprehensive political settlement through a purely Libyan-led process that paves the way for holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, reiterating Egypt's welcome of UN, international, and US efforts aimed at resolving the Libyan crisis.

This came during a phone call between Abdelatty and Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, in which they discussed regional developments, particularly the latest developments in Libya, as well as Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry's official page.

The two sides also discussed developments in Sudan, where the Egyptian minister reiterated his country's steadfast support for Sudan's security, stability, unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions, stressing the importance of respecting Sudan's sovereignty and engaging in a purely Sudanese-owned political process that leads to a comprehensive settlement fulfilling the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security, stability, and development.

Regarding the situation in Congo, Abdelati affirmed Egypt's full support for regional and international mediation efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political settlement that achieves stability in the Great Lakes region, stressing the importance of adopting an integrated approach that links peacebuilding, restoring stability, and reconstruction with sustainable development efforts.

For his part, Boulos commended Egypt's pivotal role in supporting regional security and stability, praising its efforts in promoting political solutions and resolving crises in Africa and the Middle East, and affirmed the US Administration's commitment to continuing coordination and consultation with Egypt on various issues of mutual interest.
