NOC wraps up Methane Emissions Reduction Workshop.

Tripoli, 8 July 2026 (Lana)—The National Oil Corporation (NOC) concluded yesterday its two-day consultative workshop on "Managing and Reducing Methane Emissions and Environmental Sustainability," adopting a set of practical recommendations and implementation steps aimed at enhancing environmental transparency, modernizing the oil and gas sector's infrastructure, and supporting the Libyan state's objectives in reducing gas flaring and protecting the climate.
The final day of the workshop featured discussion sessions and presentations addressing mechanisms for responding to oil spills, developing renewable energy projects, and adopting best global technologies for monitoring and controlling emissions, in line with the requirements of the Oil and Gas Methane Emissions Reduction Program (OGMP 2.0).
The concluding recommendations emphasized the importance of implementing the proposed measures to strengthen environmental sustainability, improve the efficiency of emissions management, and contribute to the development of the oil and gas sector according to best international practices and standards.
At the workshop's conclusion, participants and international experts commended its outcomes, considering it an effective platform for dialogue and the exchange of expertise, praising the NOC's efforts in supporting environmental sustainability and enhancing the future of Libya's energy sector.
The workshop was held under the auspices of NOC’s General Department of Health, Safety, Environment, Industrial Security, Renewable Energy, and Quality, in partnership with the European Union Delegation and the International Methane Monitoring Centre (IMMC). IMMC is a UNEP initiative.
