Libya and Mali discuss strengthening cooperation in the fields of tourism and traditional industries.

Tripoli, July 7, 2026 (LANA) – The Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industries of the Government of National Unity, Nasr al-Din Milad al-Fazani, met with the Minister of Traditional Industries, Culture, Hotel Industry, and Tourism of the Republic of Mali, Mamou Daffé, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of tourism and traditional industries, and developing mechanisms for coordination and the exchange of expertise, with the aim of supporting development and enhancing relations between the two countries.

This meeting took place on the sidelines of the 12th session of the Conference of Ministers of the Organization for the Development and Promotion of African Traditional Industries (ODEPA), which was hosted by the Malian capital, Bamako, from July 2 to 4. The Chargé d'Affaires of the Libyan Embassy in the Republic of Mali, Othman Mohammed Daw al-Hatmani, was also present.

Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding areas of joint cooperation. The Malian Minister expressed his appreciation for Libya's participation in the conference, commending its active role within the organization, and affirming his country's commitment to continuing coordination and cooperation in a way that serves common interests and strengthens fraternal relations between the two countries.

Libya participated in the 12th Conference of Ministers of the African Organization for the Development and Promotion of Traditional Industries (OAPIC), represented by the Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industries in the Government of National Unity, Nasr al-Din al-Fazzani. The conference was also attended by the Secretary-General of the OAPIC, Fidel Elbodo, and several ministers and representatives of member states.

The conference witnessed the adoption and signing of the organization's main amended founding texts, most notably the amended Statute and Internal Regulations, which had been adopted during the 11th Ministerial Conference held in Brazzaville, in coordination with the contact points in the member states.

Prior to the conference, an experts' meeting was held on July 1 and 2, 2026, to discuss technical and legal proposals related to developing the organization's regulatory frameworks, in preparation for their submission to the Ministerial Conference for adoption.

The African Organization for the Development and Promotion of Traditional Industries (ODIPA) is dedicated to strengthening the traditional industries and handicrafts sector in its member states by supporting national policies, developing the capacities of artisans, encouraging innovation, preserving craft heritage, and promoting regional cooperation to contribute to sustainable economic development, job creation, and the consolidation of African cultural identity.
