The head of the Border Guard Service is participating in a meeting in Brussels to discuss strengthening cooperation in combating illegal immigration and securing the borders

Brussels – July 6, 2026 (LANA) – The Head of the Border Guard, Major General Mohammed Al-Marhani, participated today, Monday, in a high-level meeting in the Belgian capital, Brussels, to discuss ways to combat illegal immigration and enhance cooperation in combating migrant smuggling and human trafficking. Representatives from the European Union, the United Nations Mission, and a number of international organizations also participated.

Major General Al-Marhani reviewed the Border Guard's efforts in securing land borders and combating transnational organized crime, emphasizing that the development of the agency's operational capabilities was supported by the Minister of the Interior, which contributed to enhancing the efficiency of security performance.

He added that the agency continues to implement a comprehensive security strategy based on strengthening border control, coordinating with security and military agencies, and expanding cooperation with international partners to confront illegal immigration and protect Libyan national security.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Libyan delegation affirmed that strengthening the capabilities of security institutions, foremost among them the Border Guard, represents a fundamental pillar for protecting borders and consolidating international cooperation in confronting shared security challenges.
