Health Minister Directs Support for Eye Hospital to Enhance Local Treatment Program

Tripoli, July 2, 2026 (LANA) – The Minister of Health in the Government of National Unity, Dr. Mohamed Al-Ghouj, directed support for the Eye Hospital to enhance its program for localizing corneal surgeries and developing specialized services in the field of ophthalmology, ensuring the provision of treatment services to citizens within Libya according to the highest medical standards.

This came during a meeting held by the Minister yesterday, Wednesday, with the Director of the Eye Hospital and Head of the Corneal Transplant Authority, Dr. Rania Al-Khouja, to discuss mechanisms for supporting the hospital with the necessary resources and needs to expand the provision of specialized services and delicate surgeries, enabling it to accommodate the increasing number of patients coming from various Libyan cities and regions.

The meeting emphasized the importance of localizing treatment within the country due to its direct benefits for patients and their families. This includes providing specialized healthcare within Libya, reducing the need for treatment abroad, and lowering travel, accommodation, and treatment expenses, in addition to supporting national medical personnel and enhancing the utilization of the capabilities of Libyan health institutions. For her part, the director of the eye hospital praised the support provided by the Ministry of Health to the eye sector, stressing that these efforts will contribute to improving the quality of services provided to patients and raising the level of specialized healthcare in the country.
