Libya presents its experience in confronting terrorist organizations at Counter-Terrorism Week in New York

New York, June 30, 2026 (LANA) – A Libyan delegation, headed by Brigadier General Abubakr Ali Abusweir, participated in the Counter-Terrorism Week and the High-Level Conference on Counter-Terrorism Agencies, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, USA, from June 29 to July 3, 2026, under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General.

The delegation included Mahmoud Al-Futaisi, Director General of the National Council for Economic and Social Development; Major General Mohammed Bashir Saleh; Alaa El-Din Ben Rajab; and Mohammed Khaled.

The Government of National Unity stated that this participation provided Libya with an opportunity to present its experience in confronting terrorist organizations, showcase its progress in developing its security capabilities and modernizing its legislative framework in line with international standards, exchange expertise with participating delegations, and explore ways to support joint programs with the United Nations.

These meetings are part of UN efforts to strengthen international cooperation in addressing escalating terrorist threats at the regional and international levels, and to develop coordination mechanisms between member states and the United Nations in the areas of combating terrorism and violent extremism.

This participation presents an opportunity for Libya to showcase its experience in combating terrorist organizations, highlight the progress it has made in developing its security capabilities and modernizing its legislative framework in line with international standards, and exchange expertise with participating delegations, as well as explore ways to support joint programs with the United Nations.

This participation also reflects Libya's commitment to strengthening international partnerships in the fight against terrorism and its role as an active participant in global efforts to confront this phenomenon and promote regional and international security and stability.
