Al-Namroush and Khaled Haftar participate in the African Chiefs of Defense Conference in Luanda to discuss strengthening regional security

Luanda, June 30, 2026 (LANA) – The General Staff of the Libyan Army announced that Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Salah al-Din al-Namroush, participated alongside Field Marshal Khaled Haftar on Tuesday in the 2026 African Chiefs of Defense Staff Conference, hosted by the Angolan capital, to discuss ways to enhance security and stability on the African continent.

The General Staff stated on its official page that the conference is being held this year under the theme: “Leveraging Our Strengths: Enhancing Regional Security for Sustainable Prosperity,” with the participation of several chiefs of staff, senior military commanders, and representatives from more than 35 African countries and international partners.

It explained that the conference opened with speeches delivered by the Chief of the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, Air Marshal Altino dos Santos, and the Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Dagvin M. Anderson, and the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim at the US Embassy in Angola, Shannon Kazu, along with the Minister of State and Head of the Military Office of the President of the Republic of Angola, retired Lieutenant General João dos Santos.

According to the Presidency, the conference discussed a number of strategic issues, including strengthening military cooperation among African countries, developing defense capabilities, raising readiness levels, expanding joint training opportunities, and supporting innovation in defense industries, all of which contribute to addressing shared security challenges and achieving sustainable security and stability on the continent.

The Presidency indicated that the Libyan delegation's participation comes within the framework of enhancing the presence of the Libyan military establishment in regional and international forums and exchanging expertise with African armies, which supports joint cooperation efforts and strengthens partnerships aimed at consolidating security and peace on the African continent.
