The Audit Bureau and the United Nations Mission discuss strengthening governance and combating corruption in Libya.

Tripoli, June 29, 2026 (LANA) – The Head of the Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, met with a delegation from the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), including the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Stephanie Khoury, and the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and UN Resident Coordinator in Libya, Ulrika Richardson, to discuss several priority issues related to strengthening governance and institutional reform.
The meeting addressed the role of the Audit Bureau in supporting anti-corruption efforts and the importance of leveraging expertise and technical cooperation with the international community to contribute to the implementation of the provisions of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, enhance the effectiveness of oversight bodies, and consolidate the principles of transparency, integrity, and accountability.
The two sides also discussed the outcomes of the structured dialogue, particularly those related to economic reform and strengthening governance. They reviewed several priority issues and explored the next steps to support institutional reforms, develop oversight mechanisms, and enhance cooperation with international partners to serve the state's efforts in combating corruption and protecting public funds.
The Audit Bureau reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its role in combating corruption, safeguarding public funds, establishing the principles of good governance and accountability, and enhancing the efficiency of public resource management, thereby contributing to achieving sustainable development and serving the public interest.
