Benghazi, June 29, 2026 (LANA) – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, stressed the necessity of keeping sovereign security agencies neutral from any political conflict or rivalry. He emphasized that their integrity and national standing require them to continue performing their duties with utmost professionalism and impartiality, thus ensuring the preservation of state stability and strengthening its national role.
This came in a statement issued in his name and published by the Speaker's media office on its Facebook page yesterday, Sunday, in response to recent discussions regarding the replacement of heads of sovereign security agencies. The statement described the accompanying interpretations and political maneuvering as serving only to muddy the waters, confuse the public landscape, and create new crises that would deepen the existing divisions.
The statement also warned that introducing this issue at this critical juncture would hinder ongoing political efforts aimed at achieving stability, unifying state institutions, and creating a conducive environment for holding elections.
In his statement, the Speaker of the House of Representatives called on everyone to demonstrate the highest degree of national responsibility, prioritize the country's best interests, and refrain from pushing for any measures or decisions that might harm or weaken sovereign security agencies amidst political tensions, thus ensuring the continuation of stability and the transition to free and fair elections.
