Washington, June 25, 2026 (LANA) – Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Unity, Lieutenant General Abdul Salam Al-Zoubi, held talks in Washington, D.C., with Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, and Deputy Commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), Lieutenant General John W. Brennan, at the U.S. State Department.
According to the Libyan government's platform, the meeting addressed ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between Libya and the United States in the military and security fields. The two sides discussed mechanisms to support efforts to unify the military institution, expand areas of military cooperation, training and capacity-building programs, and enhance coordination in combating terrorism, securing borders, and confronting cross-border threats, all of which contribute to supporting Libya's stability and strengthening regional security.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing coordination and consultation between the military and security institutions of the two countries. This will support the building of professional and unified security and military institutions and enhance the Libyan state's ability to protect its sovereignty and establish security and stability, within the framework of the strategic partnership between Libya and the United States.
These talks, according to the platform, come at the start of a visit during which General Al-Zoubi will hold a series of meetings with a number of senior officials in the US administration and military and security institutions to discuss prospects for developing bilateral cooperation on issues of common interest.
