Al-Shahoubi discusses with the EU ambassador accelerating the lifting of the air embargo on Libya

Tripoli, June 23, 2026 (LANA) – The Minister of Transportation in the Government of National Unity, Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, met today, Tuesday, with the European Union Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, to discuss lifting the flight ban imposed on Libyan aircraft and ways to expedite the resolution of outstanding issues between the Civil Aviation Authority and the European Commission's Aviation Safety Agency (ECSA).
The European Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the steps taken by Libya on this matter, emphasizing his understanding of the importance of resolving it as soon as possible. He also affirmed the EU mission's readiness to provide the necessary support to fulfill the European Commission's requirements.
The Minister reviewed the Civil Aviation Sector Development Program, highlighting the modernization of operational infrastructure and the resumption of air traffic in Libyan airspace and airports. He also referred to international reports confirming Libya's adherence to internationally recognized standards and regulations in the field of civil aviation.
According to the government's media office, the European Ambassador was briefed on the digital transformation system implemented by the Civil Aviation Authority. He pledged to exert the necessary efforts to facilitate communication with the European Commission and expedite the completion of the review process for the Libyan file.
