Head of the Missing Persons Authority receives a Dutch Delegation and the UNDP.

Tripoli, 23 June 2026 (Lana)—Head of the General Authority for Search and Identification of Missing Persons, Kamal Abu Bakr, received yesterday a delegation from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Libya, headed by Helen Baartmans, Deputy Head of Mission, and including Marja Estveld, a visiting diplomat and advisor at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as a high-level delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), including Dr. Sophie Kemkhadze, UNDP Resident Representative in Libya.
During the meeting, Abu Bakr provided an overview of the authority’s efforts across various files, highlighting the key technical and logistical challenges related to search, recovery, and identification operations.
He emphasized the importance of continued partnership with international supporting entities, particularly the Embassy of the Netherlands, a key supporter of the missing persons file in Libya, and the UNDP, which strengthens institutional and professional work on this humanitarian and national issue.
For their part, the delegation members appreciated the Authority's efforts in this file, praising the significant progress in its performance and institutional and technical work, expressing their appreciation for this important humanitarian work and the importance of continued coordination and cooperation to support national efforts aimed at uncovering the fate of missing persons, supporting their families, and strengthening trust in relevant national institutions.
During the meeting, the importance of continued consultation and coordination between the commission and its international partners was emphasized, as well as future areas of cooperation to serve the issue of missing persons in Libya and support national efforts in the areas of truth, justice, and reconciliation.
