U.S. Official: Regional and international consensus supports Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and stability.

Tripoli, 22 June 2026 (Lana)—A U.S. official affirmed that there is regional and international consensus on continuing support for Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and long-term stability, alongside backing the roadmap advanced by UNSMIL and the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative, Hanna Tetteh, aimed at advancing the political process and achieving stability in the country.
In a tweet published by U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos after a meeting held in Cairo and including Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt; His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia; and Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, he stated that they discussed a number of regional issues, particularly the situation in Libya, emphasizing the importance of continuing joint cooperation to support the country's unity, sovereignty, and stability.
“We expressed our support for the roadmap advanced by UNSMIL and the efforts of SRSG Hanna Tetteh, including the recommendations emerging from the UN-facilitated Structured Dialogue as steps supporting the political process in the country,” he stated.
“We welcomed the significant progress made by Libyan authorities and stakeholders from across the country, including agreement on a unified national budget, growing coordination among national institutions, and the joint participation of eastern and western Libyan forces in AFRICOM’s military exercises,” Boulos added.
Boulos emphasized that continued progress toward the unification of Libya’s political, economic, and security institutions is essential to creating the conditions for nationwide elections, durable stability, and a more prosperous future for all Libyans.
