Tripoli, June 9, 2026 (LANA) – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) categorically denied claims circulating about the relocation of the UNHCR office to the mission's headquarters, asserting that these allegations are "completely baseless." The mission reiterated its denial of any UN or UNHCR programs to resettle refugees or migrants within Libya.
In a statement published on its official page today, Tuesday, the mission clarified that the claims regarding the resettlement of refugees or migrants in Libya are "completely false and contrary to reality," emphasizing that it had previously issued official clarifications on this matter.
The mission expressed its dismay at the continued circulation of what it described as misleading and false information concerning the work of the United Nations in Libya, noting that the dissemination of such information contributes to fueling tensions and diverts attention from constructive dialogue based on facts. The mission called on all parties to rely on accurate information and avoid incitement, stressing the importance of respecting the inviolability of UN personnel, premises, property, and assets, in accordance with Libyan legislation and international law.
In closing, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) reaffirmed the UN’s continued commitment to supporting Libya and the Libyan people within its defined mandate, with full respect for Libyan sovereignty.
