Al-Baour Meets with Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs

Tripoli, June 7, 2026 (LANA) – The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour, met today, Sunday, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, during an official visit to Libya.
The meeting addressed several issues of common interest and ways to enhance coordination and consultation between the two countries in regional and international forums. They also discussed prospects for expanding political and economic cooperation to serve mutual interests and strengthen fraternal relations between the two nations.
The meeting also addressed coordination for convening the Libyan-Mauritanian Joint Higher Committee and reviewing and activating the agreements signed between the two countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that this meeting comes within the framework of diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening Libyan-Mauritanian relations and elevating the level of partnership and cooperation between the two countries, thereby contributing to development, stability, and integration in the region.
The meeting was attended by Najib Ashour, Director of the Department of Arab Affairs, and Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, former Mauritanian Foreign Minister and candidate for the post of Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
