Benghazi, June 5, 2026 (LANA) – The House of Representatives' Defense and National Security Committee expressed its categorical rejection of any attempts or plans aimed at settling illegal migrants within Libyan territory.
In a statement, the committee affirmed that this position represents one of the national principles related to protecting the state's sovereignty and national security.
It stressed that Libya is a fully sovereign state, and that dealing with the issue of illegal immigration must be done within the framework of respecting national sovereignty and Libyan laws, in a way that preserves national identity and safeguards the demographic composition of Libyan society.
The committee also emphasized that the challenges associated with illegal immigration cannot be addressed at the expense of the Libyan people or by turning Libya into a permanent settlement or resettlement area for migrants. It warned against any direct or indirect attempts to bring about demographic changes that affect Libyan identity or threaten national security and the country's social and economic stability.
The committee warned against taking any measures or adopting any initiatives that affect national principles or aim to change the demographic structure of Libyan society, stressing that the Libyan people and their national institutions will not accept any projects that make Libya an alternative homeland for illegal immigrants under any name or pretext.
