The session's agenda included discussions on a range of files and issues, including transnational organized crime, cybercrime, money laundering, human trafficking, environmental crimes, and the illicit trafficking of cultural property, as well as exploring mechanisms to support international cooperation and develop channels for exchanging information and expertise among countries.
The meetings will address several draft resolutions related to strengthening crime prevention and recurrence reduction policies, reviewing the progress made on the outcomes of the 14th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and discussing arrangements for the 15th Congress, scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, next September.
The speeches delivered during the opening session emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination and cooperation among countries to confront emerging security challenges and developing criminal justice systems to effectively address modern forms of crime, particularly organized crime, corruption, cybercrime, and terrorism, given the growing threats these pose to security, stability, and sustainable development at both the regional and international levels.
