Sirte, 1 June 2026 (Lana) Patrols of the General Administration for Coastal Security rescued 38 irregular migrants after intercepting a boat carrying them north of Sirte, approximately 120 nautical miles off the coast.
The Deputy Director of the General Administration for Coastal Security, Brigadier General Abdul Hafeez Al-Qaddafi, told Lana’s reporter that the maritime patrols intercepted the boat at sea and rescued those on board before transferring them to Sirte's seaport to provide them with necessary humanitarian assistance.
He stated that the migrants were of various nationalities, including two Egyptians who were piloting the boat, in addition to 24 Bangladeshi and 12 Pakistani nationals.
He highlighted that the migrants would be referred to the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency for legal proceedings in accordance with applicable laws.
