Ministry of Defense releases four kidnapped Libyans in Chad.

Tripoli, 31 May 2026 (Lana)—The GNU Ministry of Defense announced the successful release of four Libyan citizens who had been kidnapped in Chad and their safe return to Libya, in cooperation with the Libyan Embassy in Chad and the relevant Chadian authorities.
The ministry stated that six Libyan citizens from Ajdabiya with four trucks loaded with goods as they traveled into Chad when they were attacked by an armed criminal group, where the group kidnapped them, seized the trucks, and demanded a ransom of approximately 900,000 Libyan dinars.
The Ministry added that two of the kidnapped were killed during their captivity, noting that it had been actively pursuing the case since the incident, coordinating with the Chargé d'Affaires at the Libyan Embassy in Chad and the relevant Chadian authorities, which led to locating the hostages and carrying out the operation to free them.
The Ministry confirmed that a private plane was secured to transport the released citizens to Libya, and they arrived at Tripoli International Airport after the necessary procedures were completed and their safety was ensured within Chad.
