Dbeibeh stresses the need to address outstanding issues in prisons and correctional facilities

Tripoli, May 25, 2026 (LANA) – Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, affirmed that the state will not tolerate any situation outside the framework of the law. He stressed the necessity of addressing outstanding issues in prisons and correctional facilities across the country's west, east, and south, in accordance with clear legal procedures.
This came during a meeting he held today, Monday, with Minister of Justice Halima Ibrahim, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Cabinet, Adel Dhuwair, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, Ali Ishtiwi, and the Head of the Judicial Police, Major General Abdul Fattah Dabboub, to review the conditions of prisons and correctional facilities and to identify the most prominent challenges facing the reform and rehabilitation sector.
Dbeibah emphasized the need to develop the reform and rehabilitation sector in a way that reflects the state's authority and respect for justice. He indicated that what is required are disciplined correctional institutions that operate according to the law and uphold the rights of all without exception.
The meeting discussed the conditions of several correctional facilities, the regularization of the legal status of some prisons, and the situation of inmates. It also addressed expediting procedures related to pending cases to ensure the application of the law and respect for human rights.
The meeting addressed the needs of the judicial police force, plans to develop and improve the efficiency of correctional institutions, and enhance the conditions of accommodation and care within them, in line with the government's approach to supporting justice institutions and strengthening institutional stability.
