Al-Baour emphasizes the participation of the Libyan state in any consultations concerning Libyan affairs

Tripoli, May 21, 2026 (LANA) – The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, Taher Al-Baour, affirmed that Libya has repeatedly stressed, through official diplomatic channels, the importance of its participation, represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant official institutions, in any meetings or consultations concerning Libyan affairs. This statement came in response to the consultative meeting of neighboring countries held in Cairo on Thursday, with the participation of UN Special Representative Hanna Tetteh.
In a statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al-Baour asserted that this participation enhances the chances of success for these efforts and ensures their alignment with Libyan national sovereignty and will.
He added that Libya is closely following the outcomes of the consultative meeting held in Cairo, which included Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia, and was attended by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Libya.
He stated that Libya appreciates the role played by its sister nations in supporting Libya's security and stability, and their efforts to promote dialogue among Libyans and support the political process, based on historical relations, neighborly ties, and shared interests.
He added that Libya continues to look forward to ongoing coordination and positive consultation with its sister nations, and relies on their unwavering commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at preserving Libya's unity and stability and strengthening the national political process.
He concluded his statement by affirming Libya's commitment to continuing constructive cooperation with neighboring countries, the United Nations, and all international partners, in a manner that serves the security of the region and preserves Libya's unity and sovereignty.
