Misrata, May 21, 2026 (LANA) – The Tobacts Swimming Club announced the drowning of two people at the Misrata resort known as the "Industrial Resort," appealing to swimmers and residents of the city for help in finding them due to a shortage of search personnel.
In response to the club's appeal, the Eastern Region Maritime Rescue Unit issued an urgent call for divers and swimmers to participate in the search for the two drowning victims at the "Industrial Resort" in Misrata, given the severe shortage of field support personnel for the rescue teams.
Hatem Balhaj Ali, the official spokesperson for the Eastern Region Maritime Rescue Unit, told WAL that rescue teams have been conducting search operations in the sea for hours since receiving a report of the incident. He indicated that the current circumstances necessitate urgent support from experienced divers and swimmers to assist in the search efforts.
He explained that the teams began their work immediately upon receiving the report, but limited resources and a shortage of specialized personnel on site are hindering the speed of search operations, necessitating urgent intervention from volunteers and experienced individuals.
Balhaj Ali issued an open appeal to the city's residents and anyone able to help, urging them to immediately support the rescue efforts, emphasizing that "a helping hand is needed in this difficult humanitarian situation."
He confirmed that the search operations will continue until the missing persons are found, while simultaneously stressing the importance of citizens adhering to maritime safety guidelines and avoiding swimming in dangerous areas or unsafe conditions.
