Tripoli, May 20, 2026 (LANA) – The European Union renewed its support for efforts aimed at unifying the public budget and ensuring the sustainability of public spending in Libya, stressing that these two steps represent a fundamental pillar for protecting financial stability and ensuring the well-being of Libyan families and businesses.
This came during a meeting between the Head of the European Union Delegation to Libya, Nicola Orlando, and the Minister of Finance of the Government of National Unity, Rashid Abu Ghafa, in the capital, Tripoli, in the presence of the Head of Cooperation, Marton Benedek.
Orlando explained in a tweet he posted yesterday, Tuesday, on his X platform account following the meeting, that the European Union also stressed the importance of continuing to build on these efforts in cooperation with oversight institutions, in order to contribute to strengthening accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.
The European official emphasized the importance of preserving the vital role of the National Oil Corporation and strengthening its independence, as it is one of the main institutions supporting economic stability in the country.
Orlando noted that the European Union will continue to support Libya in facing economic challenges and pushing forward with urgent reforms, including through the "Investment for Libya" program.
